Honoring Kiko Rodriguez: Kimberly Hartz’s Interview with KTVU on Choking Awareness Day

In memory of Kiko Rodriguez, co-owner of Federicos Grill, who tragically passed away from a choking incident in 2022, we partnered with Federicos Grill to observe National Choking Awareness Day through "Kiko's Gift: A Legacy of Life and Love for Community." This event emphasized the critical need for choking first aid awareness, given that choking is the fourth leading cause of unintentional death in the United States.

KTVU's Alex Savidge and our CEO, Kimberly Hartz, where they spoke about choking prevention, the importance of the abdominal thurst during a choking episode and the impact of Kiko's story on our community. To prevent future tragedies, Washington Hospital Healthcare System (WHHS) is now offering FREE choking first aid training sessions. These expert-led trainings are designed to equip individuals with lifesaving skills crucial in choking emergencies.

Kiko's legacy is a call to action for all of us to learn how to protect ourselves and our loved ones during mealtime gatherings. It's a reminder that every life is precious, and with the right knowledge, we can prevent similar incidents.
