Jeffrey Evan Thomas, MD

About Dr. Thomas

Dr. Jeffrey E. Thomas specializes in Neurosurgery, Cerebrovascular Neurosurgery and Interventional Neuroradiology. His practice is unique in its integration of microsurgery and minimally-invasive, catheter-based endovascular neurosurgery for cerebral aneurysms and other vascular brain lesions. The capability to treat such disorders by both open and neurointerventional means provides a singular advantage in making complex treatment decisions for these lesions. Dr. Thomas is one of an extremely small (fewer than 120) group of cerebrovascular neurosurgeons in the United States who are fellowship-trained in, and actively perform, both types of cerebrovascular surgery for complex brain lesions.

He earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees at Columbia University in New York, and completed his internship and neurosurgical residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and the University of Southern California, respectively. His fellowship in Interventional Neuroradiology was completed at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, and his research fellowship at the Cardiovascular Research Center of the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Dr. Thomas is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an elected Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine. Following his university-based academic career, he entered into private practice at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco in 2003, where he spent the next 8 years leading the development of Neurointerventional and Cerebrovascular Surgery as its Medical Director.

He was recruited by Washington Hospital in Fremont, CA in November 2011 to lead the development of a Comprehensive Center for Cerebrovascular, Neurointerventional and Stroke Surgery based in the East Bay, with direct helicopter access to the entire San Francisco Bay Area.

With the arrival of Dr. Thomas, Washington Hospital now provides comprehensive and definitive care for hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke, cerebral aneurysms, AVM, extracranial and intracranial atherosclerotic vascular disease, and comprehensive neurocritical care for the widest range of cerebrovascular disorders.
