Educational programs and classes are also offered at the Women's Center. We believe when women learn more about their own health and wellness they feel empowered to take an active role in managing their health throughout the stages of life.

MIND, BODY, AND WELLNESS (open to women and men, unless otherwise noted)

Mindful Meditation and Yoga
Gayle Rusch will explore the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) practices established by Jon Kabat-Zin at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.  Each week will include a new mediation technique and a mindful yoga practice that coordinates awareness of the breath. Take advantage of this opportunity to develop a committed meditation practice with the support of a loving community.

When:  Monday afternoons, 12 to 1 p.m.

NEW Ageless Therapeutic Yoga for Balance and Fall Prevention  
This class will practice balance, flexibility and strengthening exercises appropriate for older adults who can walk on their own with or without an assistive device (i.e. cane or walker).  We will work on strengthening core postural muscles needed for safe standing, walking, bending and reaching.

When: Fridays 11:00 am to 12:00 pm

NEW Heartfulness Meditation  
Heartfulness meditation is a simple method to connect you with this inner knowing.  Experience a practical way to uncover the heart's unlimited resource by listening and following your inner self through meditation. Come and experience the beauty of the heart!

NEW Healing Touch  
Join us to experience techniques that replenish and balance you. The goal of Healing Touch is to restore harmony and balance in the body.  As a complementary modality, Healing Touch often reduces pain, swelling, nausea, and other physical issues while finding your relaxed state.

EVENING LECTURE SERIES

NEW Women Empowering Women
Join Dr. Victoria Leiphart as she guides you through a 30 minute short lecture followed by one hour open discussion regarding women’s issues. Topics of discussion may include preventive health care, menopause, day to day stress, coping as a caregiver, changing roles, and more.

When:   Third Thursday evening of each month, 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Restoring Balance  
Are you feeling stressed out?  Join Dr. Victoria Leiphart as she guides you through this three week series providing individualized, practical steps to incorporate mindfulness, exercise, and healthy nutrition into your life to reduce stress.

MASSAGE 

Wellness Massage
We offer wellness massage for women and men by licensed massage therapists at our Wellness Center. Massage can calm the nervous system and promote a sense of relaxation and well-being. We offer the following massages: Swedish massage, sports massage, therapeutic massage, soothing warm stone massage, pregnancy massage, foot reflexology, deep tissue and oncology massage.

“Keep it Moving” Exercise Program 
We offer active aging group exercise classes (open to women and men) designed to help seniors and older adults maintain their cardiovascular health, strength and flexibility.

When:   Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Zumba Gold 
Active older adults (men and women) who are looking for a modified Zumba® class that recreates the original moves you love at a lower-intensity sitting in a chair.

Tai Chi Program
This exercise program uses gentle Sun-style tai chi routines for every fitness level. Tai chi is an ancient practice proven to reduce pain and improve your mental and physical wellness.  Women and men welcome.

Ladies Choice Program
Get into shape by joining the Ladies Choice Program. We offer our clients an individualized exercise program in a comfortable, friendly environment.

Gentle Yoga for Health and Healing
This class is intended for women seeking a gentle program to support their overall health as well as the healing process. No previous yoga experience is necessary. Each class will include the basic principles of movement, structural alignment and breathing awareness.

When: Tuesdays, 6 to 7 p.m.
Wednesdays, 2 to 3 p.m.
 Thursdays, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. or 5:45 to 6:45 p.m.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Annual Women's Conference
This event will feature a variety of speakers to provide knowledge and resources for women of all ages.  Come bring your sister, neighbor, daughter or good friend.  Registration is required.

Join us to hear a panel of speakers inspire hope, healing, and health for cancer survivors and their loved ones. You will hear how their cancer diagnosis has allowed them to grow and find renewed strength and zest for life.

BREAST HEALTH

Washington Women’s Center offers state-of-the-art diagnostic services such as digital mammography, ultrasound, and minimally invasive breast biopsy. Our digital technology allows physicians to get reports and images more quickly in order to expedite care. Physician referral required.
