Meet Our Staff
The world-class physicians, physicist, technologists, nurses and other health care professionals at Washington Hospital's Taylor McAdam Bell Neuroscience Institute, use powerful, leading-edge technologies to treat adults and children with a wide range of neurological diseases and disorders. We focus on highly effective, less invasive treatment approaches that speed recovery and enable patients to experience improved function and return to normal life more quickly.
The Institute's five programs are staffed by medical teams with extensive, specialized training and experience in their particular area of expertise. Many members are internationally recognized as leaders in their fields. Each team takes a comprehensive approach to care, resulting in excellent medical outcomes that also give patients the best possible experience.
The teams' dedication to patients is strongly influenced by the "Patient First Ethic," the guiding principle at Washington Hospital. This ethic states that all decisions and actions must be based on what is best for the patient.
The technological cornerstone of the Institute is the Leksell Gamma Knife® PERFEXION™, the gold standard worldwide for non-invasive, radiosurgical treatment of many conditions involving the head and neck. The team uses advanced technologies to treat a wide spectrum of conditions, such as benign and malignant brain tumors, brain aneurysms, epilepsy, neurovascular diseases, spinal conditions and movement disorders.
The Institute is located in Washington West, adjacent to Washington Hospital in Fremont, California, situated in the southeast San Francisco Bay Area. This suburban region offers convenient access and accommodations for travelers. For people coming from out of town, staff at the Neuroscience Institute can assist you with your travel arrangements. The Washington Hospital campus provides ample free parking for patients and families, as well as spacious, comfortable waiting areas within the facility.
The Neuroscience Institute is named in honor of former Washington Hospital general counsel Taylor McAdam Bell, who lost his courageous battle with brain cancer in June 2006 at the age of 43. A kind, selfless person who was known for his incredible intellect and wonderful sense of humor, Mr. Bell had a significant impact within the Washington Township Health Care District, as well as the wider community. He was a charismatic figure who made a lasting impression on those who knew him both personally and professionally.
