Inpatient Diabetes Services

The Hospital is your ultimate safety net. When you are in a health crisis and need hospitalization, our specialized, professional staff is ready to support your diabetes care.

Washington Hospital has several inpatient certified diabetes educators (registered nurses and registered dietitians) who have the know-how to make the diabetes difference. We work in conjunction with your multidisciplinary team under the guidance of your physician. Other members may include:

  • Specialists (endocrinologists, cardiologists, internists, neurologists, surgeons, obstetricians, nephrologists, ophthalmologists, and podiatrists, to name a few)
  • Pharmacists
  • Medical social workers
  • Physical/occupational/speech therapists
  • Wound care specialists
  • Discharge planners

We provide diabetes education that meets national standards of care and follows the Diabetes Self-Management Therapy Program utilized in our outpatient program. We focus on "survival skills" (basic nutrition information, when to call the doctor, target blood glucose values, how to detect/prevent/treat low and high glucose, and other self-care behaviors) aimed at preventing complications.

When diabetes goes wrong or your health condition warrants hospitalization, we are here to help you.
