Quality Initiatives

At Washington Hospital, we believe quality is everyone’s responsibility. We dedicate ourselves to working together to build and sustain a culture of safety and accountability with one goal in mind: continuously improving outcomes for our patients and our community. This dedication to quality is driven by one of Washington Hospital’s guiding principles: the Patient First Ethic.

To support the organization’s quality efforts, Washington Hospital has an entire department dedicated to quality, aptly named the Quality Department. This Department is responsible for overseeing the Hospital’s performance activities by working with staff and physicians to assure the quality of care delivered to patients meets or exceeds regulatory and best practices.

First Annual Quality Report
In 2009, Washington Hospital published its first annual report on a single issue of critical importance to everyone – Quality. The Quality Report contains details on how the administration, physicians and staff at Washington Hospital have embraced the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) "100,000 Lives Campaign," the first-ever national initiative to save a specified number of patient lives by a certain date using proven clinical practices and methods. The report also contains data illustrating Washington Hospital’s success in meeting and exceeding a set of standardized Core Performance Measures set by the Joint Commission, the nation’s leading hospital accreditation entity.

Learn More About Our Quality Initiatives
Each month, a Quality Presentation is given at the Washington Township Health Care District Board Meeting covering quality improvement initiatives, monitoring activities and education. Click on the "Related Video" links above to learn more about each specific program.

The most important part of your health care team
Washington Hospital believes that the patient has a huge role in his or her health care. Our "Please Ask" campaign educates patients to ask questions of the staff if they do not understand something about their care including their medications. By asking questions and being informed, patients help improve their own outcomes. We appreciate feedback from our patients and community. Click here to download the Please Ask brochure.
