Partnership Benefits Local Residents Seeking Fertility Services
Providing convenient access to a wide variety of health and social services has always been a priority at Washington Hospital. A new partnership between the Hospital and a Bay Area clinic brings advanced fertility services to district residents.
Now, couples considering In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) can receive professional counseling to help them decide if this is the right option for them - closer to home, thanks to Washington Hospital.
Washington Hospital Healthcare System, through its partnership with NOVA In Vitro Fertilization of Palo Alto, makes taking advantage of advanced reproductive technology much more convenient for district residents.
With a quick phone call, prospective patients can make appointments with health care representatives from NOVA at Washington Clinic/Newark for initial consultation and screening to help determine if they are viable candidates for IVF.
What is NOVA?
Washington Hospital teamed with NOVA about two years ago to make advanced reproductive services more accessible to district residents.
NOVA has operated an IVF and egg donation clinic providing treatments for different forms of infertility since October 1987.
The main causes of infertility include:
Male factor, involving sperm production and sperm quality;
Ovulation, involving egg production, egg quality, and preparation of the uterine lining for implantation;
Passage, involving the joining of sperm and egg in the Fallopian tubes and transport of the fertilized egg into the uterus.
NOVA staff is available to discuss the most appropriate treatment options depending upon patients' particular medical histories.
Services to the community
In addition to providing a convenient site for first appointments, Washington Hospital's partnership with NOVA also allows several patients that have been referred by their OB/GYN to receive the IVF treatment, even though they may not have the insurance coverage or the financial means to do so. These candidates must meet NOVA IVF's clinical criteria for treatment. This allows a certain number of those who could not otherwise afford treatment access to the service. Information about the program is available through NOVA.
