Quality Initiatives

At Washington Hospital, we believe quality is everyone’s responsibility. We dedicate ourselves to working together to build and sustain a culture of safety and accountability with one goal in mind: continuously improving outcomes for our patients and our community. This dedication to quality is driven by one of Washington Hospital’s guiding principles: the Patient First Ethic.

To support the organization’s quality efforts, Washington Hospital has an entire department dedicated to quality, aptly named the Quality Department. This Department is responsible for overseeing the Hospital’s performance activities by working with staff and physicians to assure the quality of care delivered to patients meets or exceeds regulatory and best practices.

National Hospital Ratings, What do They Mean?

There are several organizations which publish hospital ratings or rankings. Consumers have questions on how these ratings are determined. Mary Bowron, Chief of Quality and Resource Management explains various rating systems and how they are significant to our community members.

Annual Reports

Every year, Washington Hospital Healthcare System publishes a report to the community in an effort to keep District residents well informed about the financial performance of the health system as well as information about the services we provide the community. In these report, you will find information on how Washington Hospital has worked to address a wide range of quality-related issues focused on delivering better patient care.

Visit the Annual Reports page to view the current or previous issues of our annual report.

Learn More About Our Quality Initiatives

The Most Important Part Of Your Health Care Team

Washington Hospital believes that the patient has a huge role in his or her health care. Our "Please Ask" campaign educates patients to ask questions of the staff if they do not understand something about their care including their medications. By asking questions and being informed, patients help improve their own outcomes. We appreciate feedback from our patients and community. Click here to download the Please Ask brochure.
