One of the collaborations
between Washington Hospital Healthcare System and UCSF Medical Center is a
Liver Transplant Clinic. On the fourth Friday of every
month, UCSF holds a Liver Transplant Clinic for District patients at 1900 Mowry
Avenue, Suite 1 in Fremont.
Since 1988, when it was first
established, UCSF has developed one of the largest, most innovative and
successful liver transplant programs in the country. UCSF performs between 140-160 transplants
annually, including a dozen pediatric transplants, and has performed more than
3,000 liver transplants as of February 2014.
UCSF’s annual volume consistently places UCSF among the top five liver
transplant programs in the country. UCSF
currently has the fourth largest living donor liver transplant program, and according
to the most recent data available, the only program performing living donor
transplants in northern California.
UCSF’s program continues to produce exceptional clinical outcomes.
The Liver Transplant Clinic in Fremont is staffed by Bilal Hameed, MD, board certified gastroenterologist and transplant hepatologist. Dr. Hameed is an assistant clinical professor of medicine at
UCSF. He completed his residency in medicine and fellowship in
gastroenterology at the University of Minnesota and his transplant hepatology
fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. After
completing his fellowship in 2010, he was invited to join the faculty at
UCSF and has already established himself as one of UCSF’s top transplant
hepatologists clinically, academically and professionally. His clinical
